University of Georgia catcher Michael Curry has been named a National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger along with the Freshman of the Week by the SEC.

Curry, a 5-11, 205-pound native of Gainesville, Ga., helped Georgia go 3-1 last week including winning a road series over Missouri. He batted .571 (8-for-14) with four home runs and seven RBI. He started all four games at catcher with perfect fielding in 31 total chances. In the series against the Tigers, he hit .500 (6-for-12) with three home runs, four runs scored and five RBI.

This marks the second time this season Curry has been honored by the league office. Curry is batting .263 with a team-leading 11 home runs and 32 RBI. He ranks third in the SEC in home runs including seven in league play.

Georgia (26-26) returns to action Tuesday when it faces Georgia Tech at Turner Field in the 14th annual Spring Baseball Classic for Kids that benefits Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. First pitch is slated for 7:03 p.m. The game will be available on the SEC Network and the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network from IMG.
