Georgia men’s tennis team player Robert Loeb was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week following Georgia’s trip to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Team Indoor Championship.

Loeb went undefeated in doubles on the weekend with partner Jan Zielinski, including a 6-4 win over then-No. 21 William Blumberg and Robert Kelly of North Carolina, to help the Bulldogs take the doubles point in two of their three matches. The Hilton Head, S.C. native also picked up two wins in singles, one of which was the first singles point for Georgia in its 4-0 shutout of Utah State.

“Robert has been one of the bright spots for our team this season,” Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz said. “Not only did he win the last two singles matches, but he’s been at No. 1 doubles, going 3-0 in this last tournament. We are really pleased with his progress and this is great recognition for him.”

Loeb came to Georgia ranked as the No. 4 recruit in the nation for the 2016 class. He and Zielinski are ranked 44th in the country and are 6-3 on the No. 1 doubles this season, having played together at that spot in each match. Only Wayne Montgomery has more singles wins (4) in dual matches this year for the Bulldogs than Loeb’s three.1

The Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend with trips to Vanderbilt and Kentucky to begin SEC play.
