QUICK KICKS
Sooner or Later
Georgia, now ranked 34th in the NCAA RPI rankings, returns to the road to face RPI #20 Oklahoma Friday evening in Norman. Friday’s match is the first-ever meeting between Georgia and Oklahoma, as well as the Bulldogs’ first athletic event this season against one of the SEC’s newest additions. Georgia enters the matchup following a pair of ties last week against Kentucky and Alabama, while Oklahoma split its contests by also tying the Wildcats and falling at LSU. The Bulldogs have played one previous match in the state of Oklahoma: a 4-0 loss at Oklahoma State on Aug. 30, 2015. Head coach Keidane McAlpine has also coached once in the state, tying Oklahoma State in 2013.

Familiar Foe
Despite its unfamiliarity with Oklahoma, Georgia has plenty with Sooners head coach Matt Mott. The Bulldogs and Rebels faced off 11 times during Mott’s tenure at Ole Miss, with Georgia posting a 5-4-2 in the matchups. In the most recent meeting, the Bulldogs bested the Rebels, 1-0, in Athens during McAlpine’s first season. McAlpine and Mott also faced off in the 2020 NCAA Tournament, with Ole Miss advancing on penalty kicks to the third round. Additionally, McAlpine succeeded Mott as an assistant coach on Karen Hoppa’s staff at Auburn in 2006.

Roll Tied
Georgia earned its second-consecutive SEC tie Sunday with a 2-2 tie against Alabama before a season-high 2,012 spectators at Turner Soccer Complex. Amber Nguyen recorded her first point of the season, scoring a 30th minute goal to level the match at 1-1 only three minutes after Alabama’s opening score. Margie Detrizio notched her seventh goal of the season off Summer Denigan’s assist, tallying a 57th minute equalizer to bring the score to 2-2. Facing a consistent Tide attack, Jordan Brown tallied 10 saves, her second-highest total of the season.

Dawg Bites

  • Through 12 matches, junior goalkeeper Jordan Brown has provided outstanding play for Georgia, tallying 75 saves and a 1.08 GAA. Brown is currently on pace to set a new program record for saves in a season. Her 75 saves also lead the SEC and rank fifth nationally; the total is also 32 more than second-place Caroline Duffy of Oklahoma. She was also inducted Monday into Georgia’s L.E.A.D. Student-Athlete Leadership Academy.
  • Roster Ties: Oklahoma sophomore midfielder is the younger sister of former Georgia defender Mia Parkhurst, a member of the program for two seasons (2021-22). On the coaching staff, OU assistant coach Warren Russ served on the Georgia staff for the program’s first five seasons (1995-99) under head coach Bill Barker.
  • With the Kentucky tie, Georgia improved to 10-2-5 against SEC opponents in road / neutral matches under Keidane McAlpine.
  • Assistant coach Rade Tanaskovic returned to the Georgia coaching staff for the Kentucky match after serving on the United States staff for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia. Tanaskovic helped the U.S. earn third place in the tournament, allowing only seven goals with two shutouts.
  • Georgia has displayed a great ability to play with the lead this season, holding a 5-0-1 record when scoring first in a match. Nonetheless, the Bulldogs have reversed the trend in their most recent matches, earning two ties last week after surrendering the first goal.
  • Georgia is playing its first Friday match of the season – the Bulldogs were 4-0 last season in such matchups.

Up Next
Georgia hosts No. 7 Mississippi State in a critical battle next Thursday, Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Turner Soccer Complex. The match will stream live on SEC Network+.
