Kirby Smart and Mike Bobo are close friends dating back to their time at Georgia. This past weekend, Bobo’s Colorado State came back and upset Arkansas 34-27. Smart made sure to text him after the big win for the Rams.
Colorado State scored 25 unanswered points to defeat the Razorbacks. The victory came at the right time after Bobo had to overcome many adversities. His team was 0-2 before this game, and he had some medical issues during fall camp.
Smart came up with the perfect text to send to him.
“I texted him and told him, ‘You better never count a Bobo out.’ I’ve been in many battles with him, against him, and with him,” Smart states. “Lifelong friend, growing up right down the road from him. Seeing what he’s endured and what his family’s endured. Amazing. To go through two losses that he had, and then come back and beat an SEC opponent when at some points in the game, they were 99 percent probable to lose, by the ESPN stats. He comes back and wins.”
Smart continues to comment about seeing him with his dad and son after the game and how that’s what coaching is all about.
“Seeing him with his dad afterward, and getting to see him hug his son, that’s just really what it’s all about. You don’t ever count him out, I can promise you that,” Smart says. “He’s a great football coach and a really good person.”
