The University of Georgia Lady Bulldog basketball team jumped out to an early lead and never trailed in a 76-44 victory Sunday afternoon at Auburn. 

The win improves Georgia’s record to 9-1 overall and 1-1 in the SEC. The Lady Bulldogs have won 14 of their last 18 games dating back to last season. The team is also a perfect 4-0 on the road during the 2020-21 campaign.

Jenna Staiti led Georgia with 13 points, marking her ninth-straight double-figure scoring game. Freshman Sarah Ashlee Barker added seven points and four rebounds in a return trip back to her home state of Alabama. 

“I would be remiss if I did not mention that Auburn is a different team without Unique Thompson,” head coach Joni Taylor said. But give our team credit. Auburn always pressures you defensively, and I thought we did a good job of managing that press. We knew we would have our hands full. Any time you can come on the road and win in the SEC it is a big deal.” 

Georgia jumped out to a 26-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs shot nearly 60 percent from the floor in the opening frame, capped off by Barker’s 3-pointer at the buzzer. 

Taylor stuck with the lineup of Chloe Chapman, Mikayla Coombs, Barker, Malury Bates and Javyn Nicholson for most of the second quarter. The Georgia five combined to hit 58 percent from the field as Georgia led 43-23 at the half. 

Georgia went on an 8-0 run and hit five of its first six shots to begin the third quarter and never looked back.
