ATHENS—–University of Georgia junior first baseman Adam Sasser has been named the National Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, it was announced Tuesday.
The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names a National Hitter and National Pitcher of the Week each Tuesday throughout the season. TCU sophomore left-hander Haylen Green was named National Pitcher of the Week. On Monday, Sasser was named National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball newspaper as well as the SEC Player of the Week by the league office.
Sasser batted .538 (7-for-13) with four home runs and 10 RBI to lead nationally ranked Georgia (33-14) to a three-game SEC road sweep of Missouri. The Evans, Georgia native tied a school record with three home runs in one game in the Bulldogs’ 10-6 win on Thursday. On Saturday, he belted his fourth home that capped a 10-pitch at-bat in the team’s 7-1 victory. Sasser is batting a team-best .343 plus has eight home runs and 39 RBI in 46 games including 39 starts. He leads the team in SEC action, batting .381 with five home runs and 24 RBI.
