Another swimmer with ties to the University of Georgia program qualified for the Rio Games during the United States Olympic Trials on Friday.
 
 
Amanda Weir, who helped the Lady Bulldogs win the 2005 national championship during her one season in college swimming, came in third in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 53.75. She was added to the United States team as a relay member for the third time. Weir competed in the 2004 Olympics, claiming a silver medal and helping the 4×100-meter freestyle relay set the American record. In 2012, she won a bronze in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay.
 
 
With the addition of Weir, Georgia will have at least seven Americans in Rio as Hali Flickinger, Allison Schmitt, Melanie Margalis, Chase Kalisz, Jay Litherland and Olivia Smoliga previously qualified during the Trials. Gunnar Bentz is expected to be added as a relay alternate this weekend as well. Georgia additionally has Canadians Brittany MacLean, Chantal Van Landeghem and Javier Acevedo as well as Finland’s Matias Koski going to the Olympics.
