Sophomore defensive back Otis Reese is the newest of now four names from the 2019 Bulldogs’ football roster that have entered the NCAA’s transfer portal.

Reese joins fellow defensive player Robert Beal, wide receiver Willie Erdman, and running back Prather Hudson in the transfer portal. This allows other schools to make contact with them.

The Leesburg, GA product played in all 14 games this past season and ended the year with three total tackles. Two of those stops were against Arkansas State earlier in the year. As a freshman in 2018, Reese played in 11 of 14 games totaling 13 tackles. Reese has only started one game for the Dawgs in two seasons, and it was against Auburn in 2018 when Georgia beat the Tigers 27-10.

Reese was a 6-foot-3, 210-pound four-star recruit out of Lee County High School who signed with the Bulldogs as part of their 2018 recruiting class. It was expected for Reese to challenge and push Richard LeCounte III for the starting safety position this past spring. And he was making some noise in spring drills, receiving some first-team reps, before coming down with an illness that caused him to miss the 2019 G-Day scrimmage.

In J.R. Reed‘s absence in the 2020 Allstate Sugar Bowl, Reese’s name was in the hat to start, but freshman Lewis Cine took over the position. Cine played well in the SEC Championship game loss to LSU, and that impressed coaches enough to start him over Reese.

Reese would have other competition this spring as well because in this recruiting cycle the Bulldogs’ signed four-star prospect Major Burns, who is already enrolled and started classes on Tuesday. Sophomore Chris Smith and redshirt sophomore Latavious Brini also return to battle for spots on the depth chart.
