ATHENS—–Georgia junior first baseman Adam Sasser has been named Collegiate Baseball’s National Player of the Week as well as the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.
A 6-4, 245-pound native of Evans, Ga., Sasser batted .538 (7-for-13) with four home runs and 10 RBI to lead Georgia to a three-game SEC road sweep of Missouri. He tied a school record with three home runs in one game in Georgia’s 10-6 win on Thursday. On Saturday, he belted his fourth home that capped a 10-pitch at bat in the team’s 7-1 victory.
Sasser leads the team with a .343 batting average, ranks second on the club with eight home runs and third in RBI with 39. He is Georgia’s leading hitter in SEC action at .381-5-24. He has played in 46 games with 39 starts at first base.
The Bulldogs (33-14) own a No. 4 RPI (Rating Percentage Index) according to the NCAA and are a consensus top 20 ranked team. They are ranked as high as No. 9 in Collegiate Baseball’s weekly top 30.
