Baseball America named University of Georgia shortstop Cam Shepherd a Freshman All-American, the publication announced Monday.
 
 
Currently, Shepherd is playing with the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. He has appeared in four games with one start for the squad that is 4-0. He is 1-for-5 at the plate with three walks and two runs scored with perfect fielding.
 
 
A 6-1, 196-pound native of Duluth, Ga., Shepherd started all 57 games for the Bulldogs. He led the team with 74 hits including 16 doubles while batting .307 with five home runs and 28 RBI. He posted a .953 fielding percentage in 277 total chances and played error-free over the final 21 games of the season. In Southeastern Conference action, Shepherd hit .310-2-11.
 
 
Shepherd is the 12th Bulldog in school history to earn Baseball America Freshman All-America honors and the first shortstop since Gordon Beckham in 2006. Also of note, Collegiate Baseball named Shepherd a Freshman All-American last month, and SEC coaches voted him to the Freshmen All-SEC team. Last year, Georgia catcher Michael Curry earned Freshman All-America honors by Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game.
