Fifth-ranked Georgia returns to action Wednesday at Kennesaw State with first pitch slated for 5 p.m.

Georgia, under the direction of Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin, enters the week on a seven-game winning streak.  Georgia moved up two spots in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Top 25 poll to No. 5. The Bulldogs (7-1) and Owls (4-3) were originally scheduled to play Tuesday, March 2, but weather forecasts forced a schedule change.

Georgia holds a 17-10 edge in the series history with KSU. Last year, Georgia went 2-0 against the Owls, winning 10-3 in Kennesaw and 15-1 at Foley Field. Georgia has won seven straight over the Owls who last beat Georgia 5-4  in Athens in 2017.

On Wednesday, redshirt freshman LHP Charlie Goldstein (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will start for the Bulldogs. His last action came versus Evansville on Feb. 21 (2IP, 0R, 3BB, 1K). Graduate LHP Anthony Rodriguez (0-0, 3.86, 1 SV) will start for the Owls.  Georgia is batting .300 as a team with a 2.25 ERA and a .978 fielding percentage. KSU is hitting .263 with a 6.32 ERA and .966 FLDG%.

Redshirt junior OF/1B Connor Tate leads the Bulldogs in batting at .483 with eight RBI.  Tate went 7-for-17 with five RBI last week. His identical twin, Cole who is the starting SS, is batting .370-1-4. Redshirt junior INF Josh McAllister blasted his first two home runs as a Bulldog this past weekend in the sweep of Gardner-Webb. His first home run, a two-out, two-strike solo shot provided a 3-2 walk-off in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader. McAllister is batting .412-2-4 and on a five-game hitting streak. Freshman DH/C Corey Collins is batting .400 with two home runs, six RBI and five walks.  He has reached base safely in all eight games and has a four-game hitting streak.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, capacity at Stillwell Stadium has been reduced to 120 and tickets are reserved only for KSU students and fans on the home team’s pass list. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and be available on the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.
