The No. 23 Georgia Bulldogs finish a four-game road trip today when it battles Clemson. First pitch set for 6:02 p.m. ET and be available on the ACC Network and the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.
The Bulldogs (16-7) have been playing without Ike Cousins Head Coach Scott Stricklin the past seven games after he tested positive for COVID-19. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 23 in this week’s Collegiate Baseball newspaper top 30 poll, down from No. 12 after going 1-2 at Texas A&M. Georgia lost the opener to the Aggies Friday 6-3 and then carried a 6-5 lead to the ninth Saturday and lost 7-6. On Sunday, Georgia trailed 4-1 going to the 7th and rallied for a 6-4 victory. Clemson (12-9) is riding a five-game winning streak including sweeping an ACC road series from Boston College.
The Bulldogs have been playing the Tigers since 1900 and lead the series 122-107-2. The teams didn’t meet in the shortened season of 2020, and the Bulldogs have won the past three meetings. The last one made history, a 3-2 victory in 20 innings at Foley Field in 2019 on Connor Tate’s walk-off single. It was the longest game by innings and time (6:33) for the Bulldogs and Tigers. Currently, Tate ranks second on the team in batting at .356 plus has three home runs and 15 RBI.
Georgia is batting .286 with a .357 OB%. The team ERA is 3.13 and fielding .979. In SEC action, the Bulldogs are batting .265 with a .330 OB%, a 5.50 ERA and .957 fielding percentage.
Georgia redshirt junior infielder Josh McAllister (.361-5-13) has reached base safely in 17 straight games. In the road series with Texas A&M this past weekend, he batted .357 with a pair of home runs and six RBI. McAllister ranks seventh in the SEC in batting. Freshman DH Corey Collins (.319-4-16) returned to action in the Texas A&M series after missing three games with a hamstring injury. He had started the first 17 games before the injury.
