Georgia’s Diamond Dogs are back home to host (4-3) Kennesaw State at 5:00 p.m. ET at Foley Field this afternoon.

Getting the nod for the start versus the Owls will be freshman right-hander Christian Ryder, (0-0), with a 6.75 ERA, but Kennesaw State has not named their starter as of yet.

Here are a few tidbits regarding the Bulldogs:

In records dating back to 1950, Georgia holds a 10-9 edge in the series with KSU. Last year, UGA and KSU split a home-and-home set with the visitor winning 4-2. In Georgia’s road win over KSU, Keegan McGovern and Mitchell Webb hit home runs and Kevin Smith earned the victory. On Tuesday, Bulldog freshman RHP Christian Ryder (0-0, 6.75 ERA) will make his first start after three relief appearances including a save in the first win this year. KSU has not announced a starter. The Owls won a home series over Winthrop 2-1 last weekend. They dropped the opener 4-3 and then posted a couple of wins (8-3 and 13-1).

Georgia went 2-2 this past week to stand at 3-4 through the first two weeks of the season. Georgia is batting .275 with nine home runs, a 5.72 ERA and a .969 fielding percentage. The leading hitters are sophomore 1B Adam Sasser (.471-2-3) and junior OF Will Campbell (.370-2-3). Campbell hit .455 in helping Georgia win a road series over Ga. Southern this past weekend. Junior OF Keegan McGovern and freshman 3B Aaron Schunk lead the team with 7 RBI apiece.

On the mound, senior LHP Andrew Gist (0-0, 1.86 ERA) has been the most consistent in three appearances including one start. In 9.2 innings, he has 11 strikeouts and only one walk. Freshman RHP Tony Locey (1-1, 7.88 ERA) started and struck out a career-high six in five scoreless innings for his first collegiate win as the Bulldogs blanked Ga. Southern 7-0 to clinch a road series this past Saturday.

Georgia’s starting lineup usually features as many as five freshmen including SS Cam Shepherd and 3B Aaron Schunk who have started all seven games. Meanwhile 2B Will Proctor, OF Tucker Bradley and OF Tucker Maxwell have made five starts each and C Austin Biggar has four starts. Biggar leads the rookies in batting average at .313, Proctor has a .647 slugging percentage and Schunk has a team-best 7 RBI. Bradley and Schunk have pitched in relief too with Bradley collecting one save in two appearances spanning 1.1 innings with three strikeouts.
