Georgia’s Diamond Dogs registered a 4-2 decision over Kennesaw State Tuesday to extend its winning streak to five games.
 
 
Georgia (13-5) built an early 3-0 lead at Stillwell Stadium, hitting three solo home runs through the first three frames. Sophomore left fielder Keegan McGovern delivered the first blast, his team-leading fifth in the first. In the second inning, senior first baseman Daniel Nichols smashed his second one of the year while sophomore third baseman Mitchell Webb collected his first home run of the season with two outs. The Owls (7-9) pushed across an unearned run in the fifth to make it 3-1. The Bulldogs managed an unearned run in the seventh when senior shortstop Nick King notched his second hit of the day, stole a base and scored on a Kennesaw State error for a 4-1 advantage. With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, catcher Brennan Morgan made it a two-run contest when he hit his third home run of the year.
 
 
Georgia freshman left-hander Kevin Smith (3-0) pitched six strong innings, allowing just one unearned run on four hits hits with two walks and five strikeouts for his third win in four starts this year. Junior right-hander Drew Moody took care of the seventh and eighth innings while junior Bo Tucker wrapped up the ninth for his first save of the year and second of his career. Owl starter Tony Dibrell dropped to 0-1, surrendering three runs on six hits in six innings.
 
 
“Kevin Smith was really good again, he throws a lot of strikes and is tough on left-handed hitters,” Georgia’s Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin said. “He got us through the sixth and then Drew Moody and Bo Tucker took care of the rest. We were able to hit a few home runs today and added a run on a mistake they made. Logan Moody made a nice throw home to get a runner and that was a big play. He’s got a quick release and it was on target.”
 
 
The Bulldogs return to action Friday at Foley Field for the start of a three-game Southeastern Conference series with Kentucky (12-4). First pitch is slated for 7:04 p.m. and be available on SEC Network+ and as a part of the SEC Network’s “Bases Loaded Coverage.”
