The Georgia Bulldogs wound up honoring their promise to play Presbyterian College this Tuesday and pulled through with a victory, winning 16 to 2. Some teams have bought out non-conference games as we head toward conference tournaments and the season winds down.

In the first inning, things were feeling a little shaky. Starting pitcher Coleman Willis was taken out immediately after 2 scores and walked enough Presbyterian players to get the bases loaded. Coming to the rescue was redshirt sophomore Davis Rokose. He finished the first allowing no scores and followed up with a couple of strikeouts in the second inning. The progression of pitchers after that played well allowing just 6 hits total.

On the offensive side of things, the Dawgs went OFF! This team had zero issue making contact and getting multiple balls into good positions in the outfield. Scoring three home runs, the Dawgs put on an impressive display at the plate.

While this win wasn’t unexpected, it showed good signs of what’s to come against Mizzou later this week for when the Dawgs try to sweep and lock up a 4 seed for the SECs. Coach Stricklin described his hitters as “mature…[and] had a bunch of guys with really good at bats” and was glad to see such a performance with the Mizzou more meaningful play happening in the days to come. Shortstop Cole Tate explained that he believes in this offense saying, “If we hit like we did tonight, I think we have a very good chance of two out of three maybe even sweeping.”

The Diamond Dawgs improved to 34-18 on this season with the victory against Presbyterian. In the following days they will look to continue that progression and hopefully land a 4 seed for the SEC Championship by performing well against Missouri in a series at home beginning Thursday.
