The 23rd-ranked Georgia Bulldogs swept the weekend series against the 16th ranked Florida Gators with a 14-8 win Sunday afternoon at Foley Field in Athens Georgia.
The crowd was rocking the stands in Foley today. 3,696 fans attended the match-up on Sunday.
The Dawgs got a boost of momentum today and never lost it. “We talk about toughness and it showed today,” said head coach Scott Stricklin.
Nolan Crisp took the mound for his first career start on Sunday. Crisp went a career-high of 4.1 innings. He allowed three runs with three hits and recorded three strikeouts.
Florida struck first today with an RBI single. In the bottom of the inning Georgia plated two runs off of three hits. In the fifth the Gators scored five runs to take the lead. The Dawgs were able to score one run in the bottom of the inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Georgia had their best inning all season scoring eight runs.
In the seventh, Garrett Blaylock and Fernando Gonzalez had back-to-back home runs. Blaylock’s home run plated three Georgia players. The home runs by both of these players was their first of the season.
In the bottom of the eighth, Connor Tate sent one halfway to Stegeman Coliseum for Georgia’s second three-run homer of the day. Following the home run by Tate Georgia extended their lead to 14-8.
Will Pearson achieved the win today for the Bulldogs. Jaden Woods recorded his second save of the season and struck out three during the 1.2 innings he was on the mound.
Georgia will be back in action Tuesday evening against the Clemson Tigers at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
