ATHENS—-The No. 19 Georgia Bulldogs face seventh-ranked Ole Miss in an SEC series starting Friday in Oxford, Miss, and all three games will be available on SEC Network+ and the Bulldogs Sports Network from IMG.
Currently, Georgia (26-11, 9-6 SEC) is second in the SEC Eastern Division behind top-ranked Florida (32-7, 12-3 SEC) while the Rebels (30-8, 8-7 SEC) sit in the third place in the Western Division behind third-ranked Arkansas (28-10, 10-5 SEC) and No. 21 LSU (24-14, 9-6 SEC). In the NCAA RPI (that is updated daily), Ole Miss is No. 4 while Georgia is No. 8 The Bulldogs are in an 11-game stretch against ranked opponents, going 4-4 up to this point. For the year, Georgia is 6-5 against top 25 teams.
Last weekend, seventh-ranked Kentucky became the first road team to win a series over Georgia at Foley Field this season, going 2-1 against the Bulldogs including winning the rubber game 1-0. Meanwhile, the Rebels dropped an SEC road series at No. 14 Vanderbilt last weekend. Ole Miss claimed game one 11-3 but fell 8-7 in both ends of a doubleheader (They were scheduled seven innings each and one went eight innings). Ole Miss is 20-2 at home and averages 8,423 fans at Swayze Field. Georgia is 7-7 away from Foley Field this year.
Ole Miss leads the all-time series with Georgia 41-38 in records dating back to 1923. The teams last met in Athens in 2016 as the Rebels claimed a series 2-1 and then won an SEC Tournament meeting later that year in Hoover, Ala. Georgia last won a series over Ole Miss in 2012 (2-1 in Athens), and its last series win in Oxford came in 2011 (2-1).
Georgia is batting .280 with an ERA of 3.50 and a fielding percentage of .978. The Rebels are hitting .306 as a team with a 3.40 ERA and a .980 fielding percentage. Georgia’s top hitter is senior outfielder Keegan McGovern (.339-12-36) who is among the players recently named to the Golden Spikes Award Mid-season Watch List. Georgia sophomore third baseman/closer Aaron Schunk is batting .293-0-25 and is 1-0 with a 2.12 ERA and 5-for-6 in saves chances. He has started all 37 games at third base and in 17 innings on the mound, he has 20 strikeouts and only three walks.
