Fifth-ranked Georgia saw its seven-game winning streak snap Wednesday as Kennesaw State rallied for a 6-4 victory at Stillwell Stadium.

Georgia (7-2) claimed a 2-0 lead courtesy of a two-run blast from senior Garrett Blaylock, his third of the season that came in the second inning. KSU answered with a three-run shot from Alex Caraballo in the bottom of the frame. Georgia took a 4-3 lead in the fifth on a pair of two-out RBI-singles from Riley King and Connor Tate.

Redshirt freshman left-hander Charlie Goldstein started and went 3.2 innings, allowing three runs on two hits with two walks and six strikeouts. In the first, Goldstein recorded a rare feat, posting an “immaculate inning.” That is, he struck out the side on just nine pitches. Ben Harris came in for Goldstein and went 1.2 innings before the Bulldogs looked to Darryn Pasqua. With runners at the corners and one out, the Bulldogs turned a double play to maintain their advantage. 

After a one-out, pinch-hit double in the eighth, Georgia lifted Harris for Collin Caldwell. He got the second out before Caraballo struck again with a two-out run-scoring double to tie the game at 4. Georgia brought in Jack Gowen.

Tyler Simons gave the Owls (5-3) the lead with an RBI-triple and came home on an infield smash by Jake Coro for the final. Jared Rhine (1-0) pitched three shutout innings for the win while Kolby Johnson pitched the ninth for his third save. Caldwell dropped to 1-1.

“It was a disappointing loss after having the lead in the eighth, and you have to credit Kennesaw State for coming back,” said Georgia’s Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin. “They made a lot of defensive plays and kept it close. We hit into a couple of double plays and made some base-running mistakes and that can get you beat, and it did.”

Georgia returns to Foley Field Friday for the start of a three-game series with North Florida. First pitch is slated for 5:02 p.m. and will be available on the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network and SEC Network+.
