ATHENS—-Georgia senior outfielder Keegan McGovern has been named a National Player of the Week along with Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.

McGovern, a Dean’s List student and Biology major, batted .571 (8-for-14) with five home runs, nine RBI and nine scored in helping the Bulldogs go 4-0 last week. The 6-2, 220-pound native of Willacoochee, Ga., tied a school record by hitting three home runs in one game. McGovern did it on his last three at bats of the series Saturday against Charlotte, blasting a pair of solo home runs and a two-run shot. He is one of only eight Bulldogs in school history to smash three home runs in a game, and the first to do it since 2009.

He leads the team in batting (.480), runs (14), hits (12), home runs (6), RBI (13), slugging percentage (1.240) and on base percentage (.594). A four-year starter, McGovern has appeared in 168 games with 161 starts. For his career, McGovern is batting .283 with 17 home runs, 86 RBI and 104 walks.

Collegiate Baseball newspaper recognized McGovern as one of its National Players of the Week. He is the first Bulldog to earn this honor since pitcher Robert Tyler in 2016 after he fired a one-hitter to beat No. 24 Alabama.
