Former Georgia Bulldog standout Kyle Farmer has reached the Major Leagues as the Los Angeles Dodgers announced his promotion late Friday.

 
Farmer, an eighth round pick of the Dodgers in 2013, was a four-year starter at shortstop for the Bulldogs before making the transition to catcher as a professional. The 26-year-old Atlanta native becomes the 38th Bulldog in school history to make it to the Major Leagues. Currently, Farmer is one of three Bulldogs with the Dodgers, joining All-Star pitcher Alex Wood and reliever Josh Fields. Wood and Farmer were teammates and roommates at Georgia from 2010-12. As a senior, Fields helped lead Georgia to the College World Series Finals in 2008.
 
 
Farmer has progressed steadily through the minor leagues, making All-Star appearances from 2014-2016 and was promoted to the Dodgers’ Triple-A team, the Oklahoma City (OKC) Dodgers, during their Pacific Coast League Championship series a year ago. Also, he has earned an invitation to Major League Spring Training Camp the past two seasons as well as a spot on the Dodgers 40-man roster. As one of the organization’s top prospects, he began this season in Double-A Tulsa and hit .339 with three home runs and 18 RBI in 33 games before being promoted to OKC. In 48 games with OKC, Farmer batted .316-6-29. Along with his catching duties, he also has played all four positions around the infield this season.
 
 
During his Bulldog career, Farmer started 211 games and posted a .308 batting average with 63 doubles, 18 home runs and 168 RBI. He ranks among the top 10 in school history for games played, total bases, at bats, hits, doubles and RBI. Also, he holds the record for best fielding percentage by a Georgia shortstop in a season (.978 in 2013) and for a career (.968). He served as the starting shortstop for the USA Summer Team in 2012 and represented the United States again in the 2015 Futures Game.
 
 
The Dodgers have the best record in the Majors this year at 72-31. Farmer was in the dugout Friday as Wood improved to 12-1, beating San Francisco 6-4. Fields is 5-0 with a 2.70 ERA this year. Following the series with the Giants, the Dodgers begin a three-game series in Atlanta on Tuesday.
 
 
Georgia now has four Bulldogs active in the Major Leagues. Along with the trio of Dodger Dawgs, former Georgia pitcher Justin Grimm is a reliever for the Chicago Cubs. He helped them win the 2016 World Series.
