Diamond Dog sophomore Michael Curry has been named to the 2016-17 CoSIDA Academic All-District™ Baseball Team
The College Sports Information Directors of America’s Academic All-District Baseball Team is a comprised of the nation’s top student-athletes and recognizing them for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
As a First-team Academic All-District™ honoree, Curry will now appear on the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America® honorees will be selected later this month.
Curry, a 5-11, 215-pound catcher/designated hitter from Gainesville, GA, carries a 3.37 grade point average in Computer Science. He serves as a co-captain this season and leads the Bulldogs in batting, home runs and RBI. He ranks in the top 10 in the Southeastern Conference with nine home runs and 43 RBI while batting .324. He has started all 45 games this year including 30 as the designated hitter and 15 at catcher. For his career, Curry has appeared in 99 games with 95 starts for the Bulldogs and has tallied 20 career home runs and 77 RBI.
The Academic All-District™ teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. Curry made the District 4 team which consists of student-athletes from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. The Bulldogs are in Lexington, Ky., this weekend for a series against fifth-ranked Kentucky. Game one of the series is slated for Friday at 6:30 p.m., and it will be available on SEC Network+ and the Bulldog Sports Network from IMG.
