With the 2021 season on the horizon, the leaders on the Georgia baseball team have launched plans for a monthly online discussion called the “G Series.”

The goal of the program will be for the Bulldog baseball student-athletes to utilize their platform to speak to elementary school children and fans in the surrounding schools and communities about topics related to social equality, diversity, and unity. In alignment with the initiative name inspired by Commit to the G, all of the topics will start with the letter G. 

The Bulldog baseball leadership group that helped organize this program includes graduates Riley King and Mason Meadows along with Dwight Allen, Garrett Blaylock, Jonathan Cannon, Ben Harris and Josh Stinson. Once a month starting in February, three Bulldog student-athletes will choose a G-themed topic of their choice and stream the session on Instagram Live.

The first “G Series” session will be Thursday, Feb. 4 at 12:30 p.m. and feature Allen, King and Stinson.

“When we first started talking about doing something, the one word that came to mind was love and how to build confidence to show love for one another,” said King. “When you play sports, you’re in a locker room with a lot of different people, and the team atmosphere promotes a brotherhood. We wanted to start a dialogue to share our insight about certain topics and hopefully gain insight from others too.” 

This latest venture is part of a collaboration with The Georgia Way and its Learn, Play, Excel program. The Georgia Way aspires to prepare University of Georgia student-athletes in academics and athletics, while enhancing their lives beyond UGA. The Learn, Play, Excel program is designed for Bulldogs to meet and mentor elementary school students about the importance of education, perseverance and pursuing their dreams.
