Georgia junior outfielder Tucker Maxwell has been named National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball as well as the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week by the league office, it was announced Monday.
A 6-0, 175-pound native of Dawsonville, Ga., Maxwell batted .563 (9-for-16) with three home runs, 15 RBI and eight stolen bases to lead Georgia to a perfect 5-0 record last week. He tied a school record with four stolen bases in Georgia’s 11-3 win over Alabama State and then did it again in a 7-6 win over Presbyterian. Also, in that win over the Blue Hose, he delivered a clutch, two-out, game-tying two-run single in the bottom of the eighth.
Maxwell’s three home runs last week consisted of a pair of two-run blasts and his first career grand slam. Defensively, he registered six putouts in five starts in centerfield. For the year, he is batting .349-4-20 and is nine-for-nine in stolen base attempts. Maxwell has played in 15 games with 12 starts.

In the top 25 weekly rankings, Georgia moved up to No. 8 in the D1Baseball.com poll along with No. 11 in the USA TODAY Coaches poll. The Bulldogs remained No. 15 in Baseball America’s top 25 and No. 21 by Perfect Game.
