University of Georgia catcher/designated hitter Corey Collins and pitcher Jaden Woods have been named to the Freshman All-Southeastern Conference Team, the league announced Monday.
Collins, a 6-3, 234-pound product of North Gwinnett High School, is batting .276 with seven home runs and a team-leading 35 RBI. He has played in 50 games including 49 starts. Collins has a team-high nine multiple-RBI games. Earlier this season, he earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors.
Woods, a 6-2, 193-pound lefthander out of Houston County High School, has made 16 appearances including four starts. He is 3-1 with a 4.93 ERA and one save in 49.1 innings. Opponents are hitting just .190 against him. All four of his decisions and the save have been in SEC action. His signature win came over top-ranked Arkansas in Fayetteville when he fired four scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts.
Since 2005, the SEC coaches have selected an 11-member All-Freshman squad. There was not a team picked last year when the season ended due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, Georgia pitcher Cole Wilcox was named to the league’s All-Freshman team.
The Bulldogs (30-23) will be back in action Tuesday at the SEC Tournament when they face LSU (34-21). First pitch is slated for 5:32 p.m. ET, and it will be televised by the SEC Network and available on the Georgia Bulldogs Sports Network.
