In game two of the Georgia baseball team’s three-game series versus LSU at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, the Bulldogs were upended by the Tigers by a score of 5-1 on Saturday night in Baton Rouge.

 
 
Compared to the hammering they took on Friday, a 22-9 drubbing, the Diamond Dogs played a much better game on Saturday outhitting LSU 9 to 4, but in the end, Georgia was not able to take advantage of the runners on base. The Tigers on the other hand, made the most of their 4 hits and also took advantage of free bases given up by the Dogs. Georgia pitchers walked eight LSU batters compared to the Tigers just giving up 2 walks to the Bulldogs.
 
 
Control issues became evident in the second inning for Georgia when Bulldog pitcher Tony Locey walked Zach Watson and then put another Tiger on base by hitting Jake Slaughter to put runners on first and second with 1 out. Then the wheels seem to come off the bus for Locey as a wild pitch sent Watson to third and Slaughter to second. LSU would draw first blood when Josh Smith grounded out to shortstop Cam Shepard advancing Watson home. Georgia would mitigate the damage done, however, and get out of the inning with only the 1 run given up.
 
 
One inning later in the top of the fourth, the Bulldogs would tie it all up at one with a lead-off, solo shot to right center from Keegan McGovern. That home run would end Tiger pitcher Jared Poche’s streak of 32 consecutive innings without allowing a run. The game would not remain tied for long when in the bottom of the fourth, LSU’s Antoine Duplantis would throw down a lead-off, solo shot of his own to right field. From the bottom of the fourth on, it was all Tigers. Georgia pitcher Toney Locey would not see any more work on the mound past the 4th inning.
 
 
Georgia would have a fifth inning that was difficult to watch, as Adam Sasser, Austin Biggar, and Will Proctor would fall 1, 2, 3 with a strikeout, pop-up, and a stikeout. The bottom of the inning did not go so well for Bulldog pitchers as they gave up four free bases, walking four Tiger batters and also suffering another wild pitch to boot. LSU would add 2 more runs on those mistakes by Georgia to take a 4-1 lead.
 
 
In the very next inning, Georgia had a chance to cut into LSU’s lead with runners at second and third with only 1 out, but Will Campbell would hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the sixth. The Tigers would add another run in the top of the eighth, again, due to three more free bases gave up by the Bulldogs. LSU took the lead 5-1 and that would be the final score of the night.
 
 
With the loss, Georgia falls to 8-12 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. Game three will conclude the series and take place on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. ET in the afternoon. The Bulldogs will be looking to avoid the sweep.
