“We’re looking forward to taking our team to Charlotte for this series, and we’re excited to have the opportunity to play a game at BB&T Ballpark,” Georgia coach Scott Stricklin said. “We have a strong alumni contingent in the greater Charlotte area, and we’re hoping to see a lot of our Bulldog fans that live in the Carolinas.”
First pitch for the Bulldogs-49ers game will be at 6:05 p.m. Field box tickets will be $10 for fans, while students from each university will be offered a discounted field box ticket of $8 by showing a school ID. Tickets for these games will go on sale at www.charlotteknights.com at a later date.
BB&T Ballpark serves as the Triple-A home of the Charlotte Knights (Chicago White Sox), and they will play host to the Triple-A All-Star Game next July. Last season, the 49ers faced N.C. State in the first-ever collegiate baseball game in BB&T Ballpark history, and the March 31st contest attracted 8,147 fans.
“We are very pleased to establish a tradition of bringing collegiate baseball to Uptown Charlotte,” said Knights Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President Dan Rajkowski. “The 49ers have become a great partner to the Knights and after the success of last year’s game, we can’t wait to welcome them back. We look forward to bringing in the University of Georgia as well.”
This past July 4th, Georgia pitcher Robert Tyler, playing for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, posted an 11-1 series clinching win over Cuba in front of 10,352 fans at BB&T Ballpark.
Game two of the UGA-Charlotte series will be played on the 49ers campus on Wednesday, March 9th with first pitch set for 3 p.m. at Hayes Stadium. The 2016 college baseball season opens Feb. 19. Georgia’s annual game with Georgia Tech at Turner Field in Atlanta to benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta will be on May 17th at 7 p.m.
