A trio of Diamond Dogs that include Tony Locey and LJ Talley are playing for baseball summer league titles as action around the country wraps up this month.
 
 
The Cape Cod League Championship starts Friday and features the Brewster Whitecaps versus the Bourne Braves in a best-of-three series. Right-hander Tony Locey is scheduled to start for the Whitecaps Friday at 4 p.m. During the regular season, Locey went 4-2 with a 2.75 ERA in seven starts. In 36 innings, he tallied 38 strikeouts and 14 walks. This will be Locey’s second start in the playoffs. He got a no decision in his first appearance; a seven-inning stint where he allowed three runs on four hits with two strikeouts. The Braves bullpen features right-hander Christian Ryder, and he is 2-0 with a 5.65 ERA in nine relief appearances. In 14.1 innings, he has nine strikeouts. Catcher Michael Curry and left-handed pitcher Ryan Avidano were key members of the Whitecaps too, and they recently returned to Athens. The fall semester at UGA begins Monday, Aug. 13. Curry batted .280-2-15 with 23 walks and 14 strikeouts in 33 games while Avidano was 1-1 with a 2.84 ERA in eight appearances including four starts. In 25.1 innings, he walked nine and registered 21 strikeouts.
 
 

 
 
In Coastal Plain League (CPL) action in Savannah, infielder LJ Talley and the Bananas play host to the Gastonia Grizzlies Friday at 7 p.m. in game two of the West Division playoffs. The Grizzlies lead 1-0 in the best-of-three series with the winner advancing to the CPL Championship Series (Aug. 14-16). The Bananas are the defending CPL Champions. They are 30-25 overall including 20-7 at home. All 27 games in Savannah have been sellouts with crowds averaging more than 4,100 people. Fans can tune into the game free via CPL WebPass. In 49 starts, Talley is batting .275 with seven doubles, two triples, a home run and 29 RBI. He has played first base and registered a .989 fielding percentage in 349 total chances.

Coastal Plain League
Florence: James Williams (3-0, 3.08 ERA, 1 Save) tallied 26.1 innings with 11 walks and 18 strikeouts as the Red Wolves went 23-30. Catcher Mason Meadows (.222-0-10) started 17 games while infielder Riley King (.274-0-16) played in 34 games with 30 starts. Also, King made one relief appearance and struck out three in 1.1 innings.
 
 
California Collegiate League
Orange County: Will Proctor (.237-0-15, 0-0, 11.25 ERA) helped the Riptides to a summer title. He saw action as an infielder in 21 games plus made four relief outings on the mound for a total of four innings with three walks and four strikeouts.
 
 
Great Lakes League
Licking County: Addison Albright (2-4, 6.75 ERA) pitched in 12 games with three starts for a total of 24 innings with 18 strikeouts and 16 walks.
 
 
New England Collegiate Baseball League
Keene: Tim Elliott (6-1, 2.53 ERA) enjoyed an All-Star summer. He made nine appearances including seven starts for a total of 42.2 innings with 42 strikeouts and only 10 walks. He tied for the league lead in wins as the club went 20-24. Third baseman Mitchell Webb (.234-8-19) played in 44 games and ranked second on the club with eight home runs while outfielder Tucker Bradley (.310-3-17) saw action in 42 contests and collected a league-leading 22 stolen bases. First baseman Patrick Sullivan, who redshirted for the Bulldogs in 2017, joined the Swamp Bats midway through the summer and played in 20 games. He batted .153 with a double, three RBI and 16 in 75 plate appearances.
 
 
Newport: Trevor Tinder (1-2, 4.61 ERA) pitched in 11 games with three starts. In 25.1 innings, he had 31 strikeouts and 13 walks.
 
 
Sunbelt League
Norcross: Outfielder Tucker Maxwell (.260-0-3) played in 25 games with 21 walks and 12 stolen bases.
 
 
Valley League
Front Royal: Adam Goodman (0-1, 10.34 ERA) made 10 relief appearances for a total of 15.2 innings with 12 strikeouts and 18 walks.
