Georgia Bulldog baseball players are getting to see plenty of action in summer leagues around the country. Here’s a brief look at how the Diamond Dogs are doing in their respective leagues. Please note that some Bulldogs have returned to Athens to rest for the remainder of the summer break.
Cape Cod League
Brewster: Catcher Michael Curry (.321-1-10) ranks second on the club in batting, RBI and walks (13). He has played in 18 games. Ryan Avidano (1-0, 1.92 ERA) has made six appearances with two starts. He has 18 strikeouts and five walks in 18.2 innings. He owns the lowest ERA on the club with at least 18 innings pitched. Tony Locey (1-1, 4.50 ERA) has made four appearances including three starts for a total of 16 innings with seven walks and 14 strikeouts.
Orleans: Kevin Smith (1-2, 3.50 ERA) made four starts for a total of 18 innings with seven walks and 15 strikeouts. He has returned to Athens.
Wareham: Justin Glover (2-1, 1.12 ERA) pitched in four games with three starts for a total of 16 innings with three walks and nine strikeouts. He has returned to Athens.
Falmouth: Catcher Austin Biggar (.143-1-2) played in seven games before returning to Athens.
Bourne: Christian Ryder (1-0, 4.00 ERA) has made five relief appearances for a total of nine innings.
Coastal Plain League
Savannah: Infielder LJ Talley (.250-0-15) has started 29 games and continues to see action at first base where he is fielding .990 in 208 total chances.
Florence: James Williams (3-0, 3.60 ERA, 1 Save) has tallied 20 innings with eight walks and 12 strikeouts. Catcher Mason Meadows (.268-0-10) has started 13 games while infielder Riley King (.269-0-9) has played in 19 games with 11 starts.
California Collegiate League
Orange County: Will Proctor (.237-0-15, 0-0, 11.25 ERA) has seen action as an infielder and a pitcher for the Riptides. He has made four relief outings for a total of four innings with three walks and four strikeouts.
Great Lakes League
Licking County: Addison Albright (1-4, 6.15 ERA) has pitched in 10 games with three starts for a total of 19 innings with 14 strikeouts.
New England Collegiate Baseball League
Keene: Tim Elliott (4-0, 2.30 ERA) is having an All-Star summer. He has made six appearances including four starts for a total of 27.1 innings with just five walks and 30 strikeouts. He is tied for the league lead in wins and ranks second in strikeouts. Third baseman Mitchell Webb (.266-3-9) has played in 25 games while outfielder Tucker Bradley (.308-1-6) has seen action in 24 contests and collected a league-leading 16 stolen bases. First baseman Patrick Sullivan, who redshirted for the Bulldogs in 2017, joined the SwampBats recently and notched his first hit to go with four walks through his first four games.
Newport: Trevor Tinder (1-2, 4.26 ERA) has pitched in seven games with three starts. In 19 innings, he has 23 strikeouts and 11 walks.
Sunbelt League
Norcross: Outfielder Tucker Maxwell (.286-0-3) has played in 17 games with 15 walks and seven stolen bases.
Valley League
Front Royal: Adam Goodman (0-0, 23.82 ERA) has seen action in six games as a reliever for a total of 5.2 innings with four strikeouts.
In related baseball news, freshman shortstop Cam Shepherd recently was honored by a third organization (D1Baseball.com) as a Freshman All-American, joining Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball. He has returned to Athens following a brief stint with the USA Collegiate National Team. He earned an invitation to training camp in Cary, North Carolina, and played in four games with one start. Former Bulldog pitcher Andrew Gist is off to a good start as a professional after signing as a ninth-round pick with Tampa Bay. Gist is a member of the Hudson Valley Renegades, the Class-A short-season affiliate of the Rays in the New York-Penn League. In four relief appearances, he is 0-0 with a 2.57 ERA with no walks and four strikeouts in seven innings. The fall semester at UGA begins on August 14th.
