Weekly Report

Georgia (8-4) heads to Charlotte this week for a two-game series with the 49ers (5-6). Game one on Tuesday will be at BB&T Ballpark, home of the Chicago White Sox Triple-A affiliate Charlotte Knights. First pitch in “Uptown Charlotte” will be at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday’s contest will be on the 49ers campus at 3 p.m. The Bulldogs are no strangers to playing in a professional ballpark as they play at Turner Field (home of the Atlanta Braves) annually against rival Ga. Tech in a game that benefits Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Georgia returns home to play host to a three-game set with Lipscomb (9-3) starting Friday at Foley Field at 6 p.m.

Nine pitchers have made their Bulldog debut this year and two of the newcomers will start the series against the 49ers. Freshman LHP Kevin Smith (1-0, 1.86 ERA) will make his third career start on Tuesday. He was due to start this past Sunday but was scratched due to an illness. The top newcomer on the staff has been junior LHP Andrew Gist (2-0, 0.69 ERA), and he will start Wednesday. Gist has made four appearances including one start, allowing just one run in 13 innings with four walks and 12 strikeouts. The 49ers have not announced their rotation.
