BIG HAIRY BLAWG was out on the road this weekend, hanging with the San Diego Chapter of the University of Georgia Alumni Association at Little Italy’s Loading Dock for the big win. There are fun groups that gather like this across the country to route on Georgia. This California-based Dawgs group of alumni and fans has become an official university-sanctioned group, after being a fan club prior, and it is headed by the gorgeous and welcoming Tara Shah.
While a big part of me needs to say tap the brakes on our national championship plans just yet. We are only one game better than we were last year at this time, one-third of the way through a long football season. I do have to admit it’s exciting to storm from a perfect 3-0 summer into a 4-0 start to the year while getting the win against the fairly overrated but still vaunted SEC West.
My primary sense of reservation comes from the fact that App State and Samford are not Power 5 schools, while Notre Dame and Mississippi State were sub .500 last year and may or may not turn out significantly better in 2017, though they each started the year stronger and are both currently ranked.
Tennessee is not, but they were a nine-win team each of the last two seasons, both of which included heartbreaking wins over Georgia. At Rocky Top, Richt flopped when then-Heisman frontrunner Nick Chubb badly blew out his leg, after setting the school mark for yards per carry for a season. That game was closely contested until a late Georgia drop basically sealed our fate. We had beaten them five in a row prior. Then last year, there was my rollercoaster of crazy emotions on “The Night the Lights Went Out in Athens” which I will be writing about here on Thursday.
Now enjoy more shots of the beauties I got to hang out with in SD, including the brunette in the last photo, my lovely alumna wife Jami Buck-Vance.
