Former Gymdog Brittany Rogers concluded the first session of the Gymnastics Canada Selection Camp in second place of the 11 gymnasts competing for five slots in Canada’s Olympic lineup.
 
 
Rogers got stronger as the competition moved to its later rotations, ultimately producing an all-around score of 56.467. She trails pack leader Elsabeth Black by 0.933 points as the group will rest before Wednesday’s decisive session, pegged to start at 11 a.m.
 
 
The Coquitlam, British Columbia native started off on beam, finishing fourth among the group with a 13.8. She then moved to floor, where she posted the ninth-best score among all competitors with a 12.8, remaining in fourth place through two rotations.
 
 
Rogers, a Team Canada member in the 2012 London Olympics, began her push toward the top of the standings while on vault with a 15.067 – second-best among all competitors. She wrapped up competition with a 14.8 on bars, the best score among the 11 gymnasts who are battling for a place in the Rio Games.
 
 
Competition will resume Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. and the final announcement of the Canadian team will be made on Thursday.
