Counting down to college football’s National Signing Day, which is just 12 days away, and taking a look at where the Georgia Bulldawgs are at with this year’s recruiting class – Bulldawgs CFB Recruiting Update – 23-Jan-2015

What has changed in the last week?

[break]

Brentwood, TN WR Van Jefferson de-committed from UGA on Tuesday after an official visit to Oklahoma. He will take an OV to Florida on the 30th.

Targets

With the end of the CFB recruiting dead period, the coaches and staff have had a solid week on the trail, and we have more of a handle on which prospects are being pursued. The two new coaches on Georgia’s 2015 staff, OC Brian Schottenheimer and OL coach Rob Sale, have really hit the ground running and below you will see 2 new o-line targets, Nick Buchanan and Sam Madden. Another new target on the big board is Tri-Cities HS CB Kriby Choates who now appears to have his academics in order to qualify. As of early this morning, he had not received an offer from Georgia as of yet, but that could change in the next 12 days.

[break]

Nashville, TN 2015 defensive back Kareem Orr also announced on Wednesday night that he would take his final visit to Ohio State with the Buckeyes.

[break]

Another whammy was highly touted and talented 2015 athlete Donte Jackson from Jefferson, LA committing to the LSU Tigers on Wednesday morning despite by all reports that he and his sister had a great visit to Athens and UGA over the weekend.

[break]

It was a rough start to the week for Georgia in recruiting with Jefferson de-committing and Donte picking LSU over UGA, but despite those hits, the Dawgs are beginning to pick up steam again.

[break] [break]

How many scholarship spots  do the Dawgs have available for 2015?

Answer: 27

[break] [break]

How many commitments does Georgia currently have for 2015?

Answer: 25

With Van Jefferson’s decommitment on Tuesday, the Dawgs are now back to 25 verbal commitments.

[break] [break]

How many players will Georgia likely sign for 2015?

Answer: 30 to 31

I still think the Dawgs end up signing 30 to 31 in the 2015 recruiting class.

[break] [break]

Who are Georgia’s current commitments?

[break]

There are currently 18 commitments on defense, and the other 7 are on offense. There are 5 defensive linemen, 5 linebackers, 8 defensive backs, 2 offensive linemen, 1 tight end, 1 running back, and 3 wide receivers committed to the Dawgs so far. Athlete Terry Godwin could play either on defense at DB or on offense at WR.

The Dawgs also have 1 transfer from UAB who has already enrolled, senior ILB Jake Ganus.

[break] [break]

How many of those remaining targets will Georgia likely sign?

Answer: 5 to 6

[break]

Georgia Not Likely to Sign:

[break]

Donte Jackson will likely stay to committed to LSU and sign his LOI with the Tigers.

It will likely come down to Ole Miss or Oklahoma for Van Jefferson even though he will take a visit to Florida on the 30th.

Kareem Orr will decide between Arizona State and Ohio State on Monday, February 2nd.

Georgia Likely to Sign:

[break]

I have raised my confidence level on Patrick Allen to the Dawgs from 50/50 to now 70% chance. He is planning to make his decision announcement at 8 AM on NSD.

In addition to Allen, the Dawgs should be able to sign either Nick Buchanan or Sam Madden to make it 4 offensive linemen in the 2015 class. Just last week it was looking like Georgia would only take Sage Hardin and DeVondre Seymour.

I am 99% confident that Roquan Smith will be a Dawg come NSD, despite the rumors that are fluttering around the internet and even though he will take all his remaining visits.

I feel Georgia will sign another DB – either Kirby Choates or Chris Williamson.

[break]

Three Potential Recruiting Surprises

[break]

1. Arden Key could very well be a pleasant NSD surprise to the Dawgs.

2. Georgia made a strong impression upon current Miami (FL) verbal commit, 4-star RB Mark Walton. Georgia could add a 2nd RB in the 2015 class.

3. There is a good chance that current Alabama verbal commit Rico McGraw will flip back to Georgia and it might happen before NSD.

[break] [break]

Are there any walk-on commitments or targets for 2015?

Yes. Georgia is targeting a 3 star, pro-style QB out of San Juan Capistrano, CA – Nick Robinson. In addition, US Army All-American kicker Rodrigo Blankenship from Sprayberry HS in Marietta, GA has committed to walk-on at UGA as a preferred walk-on.
