Bulldawg Illustrated is counting down the days till the Dawgs kickoff their college football season in Bulldawgs Countdown to Kickoff 2015, and we are down to number 43 Tony Taylor.
[su_spacer size=”20″] Tony Taylor played for the University of Georgia from 2002 – 2006. He is graduate of Oconee County high school from Watkinsville, GA where he played for coach Jeff Arnette, and Taylor was a member of UGA’s 2002 recruiting class.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Tony Taylor played for the Bulldawgs at linebacker as a true freshman in 2002. He appeared in 14 games and started one of those games versus the Yellow Jackets. As a freshman, he had 75 solo tackles and 15.5 tackles for loss. The following year in 2003, during his sophomore season, Taylor started 12 games for the Dawgs and played in a total of 13 games where he racked up 82 total tackles.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Taylor would have to sit out his 2004 junior season and take a medical red shirt due to an ACL injury. Both he and Dawg fans got a scare in September of that year when he had to undergo surgery for acute compartment syndrome. However, Taylor made a full recovery and was back on the field practicing in the latter part of the ’04 season, earning a Scout Team Award on defense. As a senior, Taylor was back looking for heads to crack in 2005 on his way to 56 total tackles.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Number 43 returned to UGA as a 5th year senior in 2006 to finish out his collegiate career for the Bulldawgs and did so with a team leading 65 solo tackles, 96 total tackles and 7 interceptions.

[su_spacer size=”40″] During his college football tenure with the Bulldawgs, Taylor amassed 260 total tackles and 10 interceptions. He was a member of both the 2002 SEC Championship Georgia Bulldawgs’ team as well as the 2005 SEC Championship squad. He was named defensive MVP for the 2007 Chick-Fil-A Bowl game where he had 10 tackles and 2 interceptions versus the VT Hokies. Taylor is tied for 11th all time for career primary tackles (solo) at Georgia with 173.

[su_spacer size=”40″] After UGA, Taylor signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 2007 as an Undrafted NFL Rookie Free Agent where he made the 53 man roster for the Dirty Birds. He was released by the Falcons in September 2008 and then signed a 1 year deal with the Seattle Seahawks in May 2009. His last professional football stint was in the Canadian Football League with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2012.
