Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart has been included as one of 16 semifinalists for the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year, according to a Maxwell Football Club announcement.

 

Smart, who is in his second year leading the Bulldogs, is one of four head coaches from the Southeastern Conference on the list. Semifinalist voting for the Coach of the Year award will begin on Friday, November 17, and close on Monday, December 11. The finalist round will include the top three coaches as selected in the semifinalist round. Finalist voting will open December 12 and run until December 26. The winner will be announced December 27.

 

The seventh-ranked Bulldogs sport a 9-1 overall record and 6-1 mark in SEC play this season and have posted wins over then #24 (now #8) Notre Dame and then #17 (now #16) Mississippi State. Georgia is ranked fifth nationally in Scoring Defense (14.5 points/game), Total Defense (277.5 yards/game) and Rushing Defense (103.8 yards/game) and has posted the country’s 10th-best Rushing Offense at 256.0 yards per contest.

 

Georgia plays host to Kentucky (7-3, 4-3) on Saturday in Sanford Stadium. CBS will televise the matchup at 3:30 p.m.
