Dominick Sanders is yet another leader that Kirby Smart has convinced to return for another year in the red and black.
After the Bulldogs 31-23 Liberty Bowl win over TCU, Sanders announced that he would be staying for his senior season. His return has to have head coach Kirby Smart glowing with excitement as he knows that he will have a very veteran defense that has the potential to be one of the country’s best. The Bulldogs will only lose two to three normal starters on their defense with seniors John Atkins, Quincy Mauger, and Maurice Smith eligibility running out, but will have players with plenty of experience to make up for their departure.
Sanders is the fifth Bulldog player to announce his return to the team in the past few weeks as running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel and linebackers Lorenzo Carter and Davin Bellamy announced they would be staying for their senior year, as well. Sanders return is a huge boost as he has been a big-time playmaker for the Bulldogs defense and another year in Smart’s system could pay off huge dividends for him.
I expect there to be a vast improvement for the Bulldogs next season, but this defense will be fun to watch as this group could be an elite bunch and put their names up as one of the top defenses in the nation. Regardless of how next season goes, I believe Sanders return will not only have a big impact on his development as a safety but will play a huge part on the effectiveness of the defense. The Bulldogs players, coaches, and fans have to be excited about the 2017 season and what could be accomplished with this veteran group.
