On Wednesday, April 17th the Georgia Bulldogs (No. 9) dominated their home field in their final midweek game against USC-Upstate. The Bulldogs defeated the Spartans in six innings, 8-0.
First pitch began at 6:02pm at the Jack Turner Stadium. Riley Orcutt pitched first for UGA. Orcutt, along with pitchers Lilli Backes and Destin Howard, made for the Bulldogs’ eighth shutout of the season.
Sara Mosley scored the first homer of the game in the fourth inning, a hit that Head Coach Tony Baldwin said got the team “off and rolling” in the game. This was her 13th home run of the season, and her 58th home run in her career. Jayda Kearney and Sydney Chambley scored off Mosley’s RBI, which put the Bulldogs up 3-0. Shortly after, Jaydyn Goodwin scored off another RBI, hit by Sydney Kuma (4-0).
The Bulldogs remained strong in the fifth inning, as Ellie Armistead stole homebase, and Dallis Goodnight scored off an RBI (6-0).
In the sixth inning, UGA brought the game to an end for the USCU Spartans. Sarah Gordon scored another home run for the Bulldogs. Finally, Tyler Ellison’s RBI double allowed Sydney Kuma to score another run. The Georgia Bulldogs beat the Spartans in a blow out midweek matchup at 8-0.
Head Coach Tony Baldwin was pleased with the team tonight. He liked the way they “controlled the ball in the circle.”
This Friday at 6pm, the Georgia Bulldogs begin their SEC matchup against the Missouri Tigers (No. 13). The Bulldogs will meet their match at the Jack Turner Stadium. Coach Baldwin claimed that the importance of playing at home is “getting the timely hitting” and “making the right pitches.” Baldwin is excited to “get the energy back in [their] place” and “fight like heck and play well.”
