The Bulldogs held their first scrimmage of Fall Camp just after lunch on a hot and humid August Saturday in Sanford Stadium. We have photos and reports from the media viewing period; so, come on in and take a look at the Dogs dressed out and ready for battle.

If there were any conditioning issues with any of the players, especially the incoming freshmen, Saturday was a good test as it was most likely one of the hottest as well as humid days the Dogs have practiced in since Fall Camp started back on July 31st. The scrimmage took place during Georgia’s 12th practice of camp and as often happens, there are a few players that are dinged up.

INJURY REPORT

Senior offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn was dressed out during pre-scrimmage warm-ups, but he was not wearing a helmet and did not participate in the drills. He missed at least four practices in a row earlier this week with an undisclosed illness.

Another player who had missed several practices due to an undisclosed illness, defensive lineman Michail Carter, returned to practice on Thursday and at Saturday’s scrimmage looked no worse for wear. The sophomore figures to be a key cog in the Bulldogs defensive line rotation this season.

Junior defensive end Jonathan Ledbetter was absent from Saturday’s scrimmage. Kirby Smart said in his post-scrimmage presser that Ledbetter also had an undisclosed illness but would be fine and is expected to be back soon.

Freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Holloman is fighting through some minor injuries. He tweaked his hamstring earlier in the week and when he returned to practice he was also wearing a light wrap on his left forearm. He was working on the sideline but didn’t look to be quite 100% yet as he was going through the drills with the rest of the receivers.

Sophomore wide receiver Tyler Simmons injured his wrist in last Saturday’s open practice and returned this week with a light cast on his left wrist. He was practicing with what appeared to be no limitations.

Kirby Smart addressed some questions after the scrimmage:

How did the team hold up in the conditions today?
‘’We ran 70 plays in that kind of heat, and I’m glad we got the opportunity to see that and see how they pushed through it today. I’m thankful for that. We found out a lot about the guys today, and I hope to see a few more hot days this week.”

What does it mean for the offensive line when senior Isaiah Wynn (out with an illness) is not playing?
‘’It doesn’t help our cohesion as a unit. When he’s in there, we’re a better unit. It forces other guys to play at right tackle, at left tackle.’’

How has senior offensive lineman Dyshon Sims performed during preseason camp?
“Dyshon enjoys the challenge. He has done a great job. He is versatile and knows his role.”

How did the secondary look during the scrimmage?
“The leaders are leading, and a lot of guys are doing the best job they can. We have a lot of experience there, but they gave up some plays today, and they made some plays when we went one-on-one.”

Were there any standouts during the scrimmage?
“There really wasn’t. There was not any one situation where anybody stood out. I need to watch the tape. Nobody stood out in the wrong way.”

How did the team look in the Red Zone?
“We put the ball in there one time, and the defense held them to a field goal. We need to be (ranked) in the upper 20s in there in the country to be a good team. The defense won today.” in that kind of heat, and I’m glad we got the opportunity to see that and see how they pushed through it today. I’m thankful for that. We found out a lot about the guys today, and I hope to see a few more hot days this week.”
