Bulldogs Pick Up Commitment No. 8 for 2018, John Fitzpatrick Commits to the “G”

The Bulldogs picked up their eighth commitment for the class of 2018 with John Fitzpatrick’s announcement via Twitter that he will be committing to the University of Georgia.

Fitzpatrick is a 6 foot 6 and 232 lbs 2018 prospect out of the Atlanta, GA area where he play at defensive end and tight end for Marist High School. The Dogs offered the highly sought over TE back on April 18th, 2017, “Fitz” has over 48 scholarship offers, and he chose UGA over schools like Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia Tech, Princeton, UCLA, and Vanderbilt.

247 Sports has Fitzpatrick rated as a three-star and the No. 63 TE prospect for 2018 while Rivals rates him a four-star and No. 9 TE prospect. ESPN and Scout also rank Fitzpatrick as a three-star prospect, with Scout having him as the No. 23 overall at his position and ESPN No. 14. “Fitz’s” composite ranking at 247 has him as the No. 34 overall TE prospect.

So what are the Dogs getting in “Big” John Fitzpatrick?

While he doesn’t have Blazevich’s or Nauta’s speed and the pay sites don’t rate him as highly as some of the other prospects at TE, Fitzpatrick is a solid and very smart player who will come up and pop you a good one when he is blocking, but don’t let his lack of speed fool you. “Fitz” is sneaky good in traffic and has a knack for getting open in coverage. He uses his size well to block out defenders and created “space” for his quarterback to have a window to throw to. And once the ball is thrown his way, he has big, sure hands in which to bring the ball in. Fitzpatrick grew up playing soccer and it shows as he has some wiggle and great footwork. In a way, he reminds me of former Georgia TE Arthur Lynch. He’ll join a very talented tight end group in Athens in 2018 which will include Jackson Harris, Isaac Nauta, and Charlie Woerner.

The Dogs could end up taking two tight ends in the 2018 class and that second guy could very well be Luke Ford out of Carterville High School from Carterville, IL.

Please enjoy these highlights of John Fitzpatrick.
