The Bulldogs have started out June with their hair on fire on the college football recruiting trail. So far, Georgia has had not one, not two, but three commitments to the 2018 recruiting class; the most recent coming over the weekend from an offensive lineman. Let’s take a look at that commitment as well as the news, offers, and visits from the past week in the latest Bulldogs Recruiting Rewind.

 

Owen Condon Commits to the G

 
Shortly after 5:00 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon on the 10th of June, offensive tackle Owen Condon announced his decision to verbally commit to UGA via Twitter. His commitment is the third for the Dogs in the month of June, joining offensive lineman Warren Ericson and defensive back Rachad Wildgoose, Jr. who committed on Friday, June 2nd. Condon is also Georgia’s sixth commitment for 2018.
 
 

 
 
The 6 foot 7 and 315 lbs Condon is out of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where he plays in the trenches at offensive tackle for Bishop McGuinness High School. 247 Sports ranks Condon as a three-star prospect and No. 42 OT prospect in the 2018 class via their composite rating system. ESPN and Rivals also rate him a three-star OT while Scout projects him as a four-star and 23rd best OT overall.
 
 
Condon brings to the table for the Dogs a big man who is quick as a cat on his feet and punches with power in the trenches. He has what I call “dancer’s feet” for a big man, which is a good thing. It basically means he moves well. Footwork is important for big men to be able to position to block incoming athletic and speedy pass rushers that they will face in college. Condon also has a nasty streak and is like a heavyweight boxer in the trenches with his initial punch. He should be a future starter at OT in for Georgia after a 2 to 3 years in Pittman’s system.
 

So just how hot is the Bulldogs’ recruiting right now?

 
 
Well, to give you an idea, Georgia was sitting at just two commitments on May 30th and then Jaevon Becton pulled the trigger and committed to UGA on the 31st. In other words, if you are counting, the Dogs have picked up four new commitments in two weeks. And the month of June is not over for the Georgia coaching staff either. It is highly probable that the Bulldogs could add a couple of more prospects by the month’s end.
 
 
The number one rated running back in the land, Zamir White, is set to announce his decision on Tuesday, June 27th in a little less than two weeks, and right now, he is favored to pick the Bulldogs. It is also very likely that Georgia will pick up at least another commitment during June besides White.
 

Camps and Visits

 
Georgia has had a number of high-profile prospects come through Athens the last couple of weeks visiting not only during the Kirby Smart Football Camps but also during the week. Clemmons, NC 2018 defensive end KJ Henry was in the Classic City on Monday, June 6th and the Bulldogs hosted a couple more defensive linemen prospects last Wednesday with class of 2019 Antonio Alfano and 2018 Darnell Jefferies. Alfano is an imposing 6 foot 5 and 270 lbs DT prospect out of Bergen Catholic School, Oradell, NJ who UGA offered back on March 9th.
 
 
Two other visits of note over the weekend were from J.D. Bertrand and Harold Joiner. On Friday, Bertrand took in Georgia and hung out with sophomore TE Isaac Nauta, a position that Bertrand also plays in addition to outside linebacker for Blessed Trinity Catholic School in Roswell, GA. Right now, the 2019 prospect is a big Bulldog lean, but the question is which position will he play at the next level? Joiner visited on Saturday and the 2018 RB out of Mountain Brook High School from Birmingham, AL could be one of two tailbacks the Dogs opt to take in this recruiting class.
 
 

 
 
Kirby Smart and the Georgia coaching staff hosted the youth camps for the 8 to 14-year-old age groups from June 8-10 along with a kicking/punting camp on June 7th and a basic skills camp on the 7th and 8th. This week the 7-vs-7 and lineman camps are going on from the 13th-15th.

While the offers from the Bulldogs haven’t stopped, Kirby and company have definitely cut back this past week.

More college football recruiting news

 
The big news last week besides Owen Condon’s commitment to the Dogs was the de-commitment of 2018 QB Justin Fields from Penn State this past Tuesday on June 6th. The Harrison High School Dual-Threat prospect reopened up his recruitment and Georgia is front and center. The coaching staff got Field on campus a couple of weeks ago and he was in town in Athens again this week on Monday. If Jim Chaney can pull Fields to UGA, that would be one of the biggest recruiting QB hat tricks that I can recall.
 
 
One more bit of big news fell on Sunday with 2018 RB Master Teague III announcing his commitment to the Ohio State Buckeyes over Auburn, Georgia, and Tennessee. Urban Meyer offered the Murfreesboro, TN tailback while he was visiting, and that along with the OSU’s sales pitch was enough to convince Teague to go ahead and make his decision. Until the Buckeyes offered, Georgia was a strong a favorite here. The good thing is that the Bulldogs are in the driver’s seat in regards to Zamir White and are still in a position to pull a highly rated second running back as well.
 

Closing thoughts…

 
As I stated earlier, I think Georgia picks up at least a couple of more commitments by months end, and one of those I expect to be Zamir White. And the other one? I don’t want to get to many Bulldogs’ hopes up out there in Dawg Land, but UGA could realistically also land Fields. I still think Auburn and Florida are the teams to beat due to the depth charts and it is easier for them to sell potential playing time.
 
 
I also wanted to address 2017 Georgia signees Robert Beal, Jr., Netori Johnson, and Devonte Wyatt having yet to enroll at UGA. To my knowledge, all three are still in the process of getting cleared through the NCAA Eligibility Center. If they get cleared this month, they can still enroll before fall in the Short Summer Session II in July. If not, they have the rest of June and all of July to get cleared to be able to enroll for Fall Semester. The concern will be if fall practice starts and they are still not on campus.
 
 
The month of June has been good to Georgia so far and I don’t expect that to change; so, buckle up my Bulldawg faithful. It’s going to be a fun, fun ride into July.
