Murray Poole has some Bulldogs for you to watch and keep an eye on as 12th ranked Georgia hits the road for the second week in a row to take on 23rd ranked Ole Miss.
MALKOM PARRISH (CB, #14)
Parrish, the junior cornerback from Quitman, Ga., started all 13 games for the Bulldogs in 2015 and recorded 42 total tackles, 6.5 tackles-for-loss and one sack. He notched six tackles, including 1.5 for a loss, against Penn State in the TaxSlayer Bowl and returned an interception 27 yards against Georgia Tech. Going further, Parrish intercepted a pass at Auburn, had three tackles and a blocked punt vs. Southern and established a new career high and finished third on the team with six tackles against ULM. A veteran leader of the Bulldogs’ experienced secondary this season, Parrish was one of six recipients of the Coffee County Hustle award during this year’s spring drills. Truly, head coach Kirby Smart and defensive coordinator Mel Tucker are expecting many more big plays from Parrish this fall.
JEB BLAZEVICH (TE, #83)
Another Coffee County Hustle Award winter during spring practice, this 6-5, 248-pound junior tight end from Charlotte, N.C. is now a three-year starter for Georgia. After being named to the Freshman All-SEC Team in 2014 when he had 18 receptions for 269 yards and two touchdowns, Blazevich and the other UGA tight ends weren’t targeted nearly as much last season and his season totals were 15 catches for 144 yards and one touchdown. Prior to the 2015 campaign, Blazevich was named to the Athlon Sports Preseason All-SEC Fourth Team. A member of the UGA J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Honor Roll, Blazevich is expected to play an increased role in Jim Chaney’s offense as the 2016 season moves along.
SHANE BEAMER (SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR, TE COACH)
Beamer was named special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at Georgia on Jan. 5 of this year after serving as associate head coach and running backs coach at Virginia Tech the last five years. Prior to joining the Hokie staff, Beamer, the son of former long-time Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer, served as an assistant coach at South Carolina (2007-10) and Mississippi State (2004-06). He also held graduate assistant positions at Tennessee (2001-03) and Georgia Tech (2000). At South Carolina, Beamer coordinated the special teams and coached outside linebackers. In his final two years in Columbia, Beamer also served as recruiting coordinator. He was nominated for the 2009 Frank Broyles Assistant Coach of the Year award following the season when his special teams units recorded five blocked kicks, tying for the SEC lead and tying for the eighth-highest total in the nation. Certainly, as this football season progresses, the Bulldawg Nation is hoping Beamer can bring that special teams magic to the Bulldogs.
