After a dismal start to the season for the Georgia Bulldogs, in which they gave up 24 runs to the College of Charleston Cougars and only scored 9 runs of their own in the first two games combined, They earned their first victory of the year in a thrilling 9-8 contest.

 
 
The game came down to the bottom of the ninth, with a runner on third, two outs, and the Cougars trailing the Bulldogs by one. However, Bulldogs’ pitcher Christian Ryder showed poise and struck out the Cougars’ designated hitter Dylan Wondrack to end the game.
 
 
The Bulldogs’ bats picked up where they left off in game two of the series, where they out-hit the Cougars while earning 5 of their 6 runs in the final three innings. Their big inning today came in the 2nd, where they earned 4 runs and would gain the lead and never lose it in the remainder of the game. In this final game of the series, The Bulldogs earned 9 runs on 14 hits and the bottom of their order was on fire for the whole game.
 
 
Keegan McGovern, Austin Biggar, and Aaron Schunk played a huge role in the Bulldogs offensive outburst and they were a factor in every Bulldogs’ run. McGovern was the only Bulldog to stay perfect at the plate and he scored in three of his four plate appearances. Freshmen Austin Biggar and Aaron Schunk both went three for four, with Biggar finishing with three RBIs while earning his first career home run and Schunk leading the team in RBIs with five.
 
 
The Bulldogs had everything working today as their starting pitcher Chase Adkins had a much more dominant day than his stat line shows as he gave up 5 runs on 9 hits, with two of those runs scoring after he was pulled. Adkins had the strikeout pitch working as he finished with 7 strikeouts, but what was more impressive was his ability to not give up free bases.
 
 
Adkins did something that only one 1 out of the 10 Bulldogs’ pitchers to pitch previously to him in the series had done, He did not issue a single walk in his start. On both days previous to this game, Bulldogs’ head coach Scott Stricklin had mentioned the issue of giving up free bases and he has to be pleased with his starting pitcher’s ability to clean up this area.
 
 
The Cougars bats struggled against Adkins early, but they slowly chipped away at the Bulldogs’ lead in the later portion of the game. However, it was not enough to overcome the deficit left by the Cougars pitchers.
 
 
The (1-2) Bulldogs will next face the (3-0) Mercer Bears at Mercer on February 21.
