It was announced on Thursday that Georgia’s Cameron Nizialek has been named as of the 10 semifinalists for the 2017 Ray Guy Award.
The Ray Guy Award is given to the best punter in college football each season. Cameron joins two other punters from the SEC on the Ray Guy Award list.
MEET CAMERON NIZIALEK, No. 92
Nizialek came to the University of Georgia as a graduate transfer out of Columbia University over the summer and won the start as the Bulldogs’ punter during Fall Camp. He is a native of Chantilly, Virginia where he attended Freedom High School.
And the Columbia University grad has been stellar on special teams for UGA this season. Nizialek has boomed 41 punts for a 44.4-yards per punt average, 20 of those have been down inside the 20-yard line. Nizialek not only kicks for distance but also for hang time as opponents have only been able to return eight punts for 40 yards. To put that in perspective, the Bulldogs have the fifth-best Net Punting mark (42.4) in the country.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Ray Guy Award was first given out in 2000. Georgia has one previous Ray Guy winner; former Bulldog All-American Drew Butler captured the honor in 2009 for the University.
HOW IS THE WINNER DETERMINED?
A national voting body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, national media, and previous Ray Guy Award winners will decide the three award finalists who will be announced on Tuesday, November 21st. Voters will then vote again to determine the winner who will be announced live on Thursday, December 7th at The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN in Atlanta.
