Charlie Woerner made a highlight catch in the Bulldogs last game as he hurdled a Missouri defender, but this should not be a surprise as he is no stranger to hurdling.

 

Woerner was a hurdler on the track team in high school, and he was actually quite accomplished at hurdling as well. He ran the 110m hurdles and as a freshman and sophomore, he made it to state, where he finished second and third respectively with his best time being a 14.5 seconds. Woerner could not recall ever hurdling another player, but his experience at the high school level definitely gave him an advantage.
 
 
Woerner went on to mention that his hurdling ability was not as good as it was in high school and that he believes that Nick Chubb’s hurdle was a bit more impressive. Hurdling a player definitely takes some skill but instincts play a large role in making a play like this happen according to Woerner.
 
 

“You don’t really think, you just kinda do it,” said Woerner. “Just do what you gotta do to get more yards, it just kinda happens so quick.”

 
 
Woerner is a part of the Bulldogs talented tight end group and his athletic ability is clearly something that makes him so valuable at this position. Although hurdling is not a common part of the game, being athletic enough to make plays like this should make Woerner a more enticing weapon.
 
 
The Bulldogs have not thrown the ball much this season and the tight ends as a group have seen even fewer targets, but if Woerner is able to show his ability to make explosive plays like this happen, then that could change.
