Redshirt freshman Chauncey Manac will be transferring from UGA to Garden City Community College per Head Coach Kirby Smart.
During a press conference following the Bulldogs’ Tuesday afternoon practice, Kirby Smart confirmed rumors that linebacker/defensive end Chauncey Manac will be transferring. You can find Kirby’s report on Manac transferring early on in the video at the 00:25 mark.
Manac came to the University of Georgia from Clinch County High School as a member of the Bulldogs 2016 recruiting class. He was rated a four-star prospect by 247 Sports, ESPN, and Rivals and was considered one of the top 15 plays from the Peach State. He did not see action in any of Georgia’s 12 regular season game nor the Bulldogs’ Liberty Bowl game versus TCU and redshirted. The talented athlete came to UGA as an OLB but the coaching staff had moved him to defensive end on the D-line to try to find an opportunity for Manac to earn some playing time. In a press conference from the first week of UGA’s Fall Camp on Saturday, August 5th, Kirby smart discussed Manac’s position changes and how he was developing progressing in practice.
“This is a guy who continues to make plays in practice and we have the same debate — is he an outside linebacker, defensive end?” Smart said. “The way college football is… college football is such a space game. He is slippery. He is hard to block, but when we run downhill runs at him he is not as effective. He is not big enough to hold up, so you have to decide what role does he have. He certainly has a role on this team because he has a really uncanny ability to get on and off blocks, to make plays, to cause disruption. He is still learning our system. Right now, he has been working at defensive, but you have to remember that fifty percent of our outside backers are defensive ends… We are just putting him in that room; so, that he gets that experience…”

No specific reasons were given for Chaunce Manac transferring, but his departure leaves the Bulldogs with seven scholarship outside linebackers including seniors Lorenzo Carter and Davin Bellamy and juniors Keyon Brown and D’Andre Walker along with freshmen Robert Beal, Walter Grant, and
Jaden Hunter (who is also practicing at ILB); plus, two walk-ons that include Daniel Harper and Trevor Lowe.
