With the conclusion of the 2015 Recruiting Cycle, it’s time to look ahead at the Class of 2016 Top 25 Georgia Recruits. The state is once again LOADED. Here is my take on the most talented guys in the Peach-State this year.
1.) Derrick Brown (DT) – Lanier
– The top spot could have been taken by a few different players, but Brown ended up having the biggest claim. At 6 foot 4 inches and 310 pounds, he already has the frame of a D1 monster inside. He has great explosiveness off the ball and his pursuit ability is unparalleled at his position. He plays with great leverage and beat double teams consistently in his Junior season. If he continues to develop during his Senior season, he has the potential to be as good or better than Trenton Thompson was this year.

2.) Demetris Robertson (ATH) – Savannah Christian
– Robertson has dynamic playmaker written all over him. This past season he put up a crazy amount of TD’s with very limited amount of playing time due to transferring. He is extremely elusive and has a great set of hands to add to his already polished route running. He could also turn into a lock down college corner, but I believe he projects much higher as a WR at the next level.

3.) Ben Cleveland (OT) – Stephens County
– The first thing you need to know about Cleveland: 6 foot 6 inches, 330 pounds. That is not a typo, and he could have grown since those measurements were taken. “Big Ben” is as physically imposing of a high schooler as I have ever seen. The crazy thing? He doesn’t have bad weight. Looking at him, he looks as solid as a rock and carries his weight very well. With continued footwork improvement, Cleveland could turn into an NFL caliber OT.

[/su_spoiler] 4.) Julian Rochester (DT) – McEachern– Having a 2nd DT in the top 4 is a testament to just how stacked the state of Georgia is at that position in this class. Rochester possesses a massive 6 foot 5 inch, 306 pound frame and can be outright dominate at times. He is a true run clogger and has worked to improve his pass rushing too. The one “knock” on rochester is that he occasionally takes plays off. Lucky enough for Rochester, that problem is easily fixed, and colleges everywhere are licking their chops at the prospects of having him strap up for their team.

[/su_spoiler] 5.) Nigel Warrior (S) – Westlake– With a name like Nigel’s you had to expect great things. This guy really has “Wowed” me. He currently is 6 foot and about 180 pounds. He has the speed and versatility to play corner, but the physicality and ball skills to play Safety. To me, Warrior has the potential to turn into an All-American caliber player at the Safety position in college. He is not afraid to hit you, and seems to get better and better in coverage. Schools are already all over this talented DB.

[/su_spoiler] 6.) Chauncey Manac (DE) – Clinch County– Manac is very very good, but has not even touched his potential yet. A lot of critics claimed his numbers were due to playing in a low classification of HS football…and then he showed up at recent camps and all-star games and put on a show. He has good speed and some impressive moves that allow him to rush the passer very well. He also is big enough to set the edge and stop the run. Look for Manac to continue to work on his speed and perfect his moves…he is already dangerous.

[/su_spoiler] 7.) Marquez Callaway (ATH) – Warner Robins– Speed speed speed; this guy has it. Listed as an athlete, Callaway projects as a corner all the way for me. He is short yardage quickness is 2nd to none in this class and he has some great reflexes in his hips. His footwork is also a great strength and could be in large part due to him playing basketball (yeah he dominates on the court too). If Callaway can learn to be a little more physical in bump in run coverage, he could be a great one on the next level.

[/su_spoiler] 8.) Charlie Woerner (WR/TE) – Rabun County– Woerner could play WR or TE at the next level and be great at either. He is currently listed at 6 foot 5 inches and 225 pounds, which makes me believe he will end up at TE. Woerner has amazing athleticism for a guy his size, and loves to stick his nose in on the play. Watching his highlights, he has a knack for finding openings in the defense, “sitting down” and making tough catches. If Woerner ends up playing TE, he will need to work on packing on a little weight while maintaining his good speed.

[/su_spoiler] 9.) Mecole Hardman (CB/WR) – Elbert County– I like to call Hardman a little ball of dynamite. at 5 foot 11 inches and 172 pounds, he is absolutely shredded with muscle and packed with explosiveness. His first step and acceleration are deadly. I originally thought he would project as a straight up corner in college, but his recent showings playing WR have made me think otherwise. He could be a great CB OR mold into a very effective slot wide receiver. The other thing I like about Hardman: his unselfishness. He has told me multiple times that he doesn’t care where he plays…it all depends on where his coach wants him and how he can help the team win.

[/su_spoiler] 10. ) EJ Price (OT) – Archer– One of the the most important aspects of evaluating Offensive Tackles is footwork. What makes Price so good, is that he already has great footwork. He moves very light on his feet for a 300 pounder. He also has great length. His arms are extremely long and he uses them well when fending off pass rushers. His one area for improvement is his physicality, but I think he has begun to really hone in and work on that as he has made major strides in the weight room this offseason already.
