With 10 minutes or so to go in Georgia’s first game this past Saturday and up 51-14 in the fourth quarter, for a second time the referees called a stoppage of play due to lightning being detected in the area around Sanford Stadium. The coaches met with the refs and decided for everybody’s safety to call the game right then and there. University of Georgia offensive line Coach Rob Sale talks to the media about how the weather shortened game affected the Dawgs from playing more offensive linemen versus Louisiana-Monroe.

[su_spacer size=”40″] It would have been good for the number 2 unit to get their feet wet and build some confidence together as a unit. It’s the Southeastern Conference after all, and this is “grown man” football. Whether we like to talk about it or not, bodies get beaten up and worn down. Injuries happen. Football is a contact sport, where violent collisions occur. In the trenches, the o-linemen and d-linemen explode and attack each other every play. Georgia has to be able to count on some of those number two guys to step up if need be as the season wears on.

[su_spacer size=”40″] Bulldawg Illustrated’s Greg Poole asked Coach Sale how many offensive linemen played in the game versus Louisiana-Monroe, and Sale stated six. The only lineman that got to rotate in and played other than the starters was senior Hunter Long who Coach Sale approximated had 18 snaps.I really felt bad for some of those guys. That next serious we had a different line up going in there. 5 new guys. Just like anybody, they put in the work and the effort. When we went back in there and told them, some of those guys were disappointed.

Dyshon was going to go to left guard. Hunter was going to go to center. I was going to keep Pyke at guard, and I was going to put Kendal Baker at tackle.
