The Georgia Football program received news Wednesday afternoon that four-star athlete C.J. Washington was committing to the Bulldogs.
This is Georgia’s second verbal commit of the 2022 cycle and Washington picked The Bulldogs over LSU and Tennessee.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Cedartown native is listed as the 97th overall prospect in the country, per 247Sports. He’s also the No. 5 inside linebacker in the 2022 class as well.
The Bulldogs and Volunteers both offered Washington on Dec. 2, 2019 after a dominant performance in the Georgia Elite Classic.
“I chose Georgia not because of the just the players and the coaches, but I chose Georgia because it has always felt like home to me,” Washington said.
Washington comes from the same high school as former Bulldog and current Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb. Apparently the two have already been drawing comparisons in terms of athleticism, and both have actually worn the No. 27 before. That is Washington’s current number in high school as Chubb wore it at UGA.
“It is cool to see him do what he has done, to start here at Cedartown, go to Georgia and then go to the NFL, but I am going to Georgia to start my own legacy and I want to be better than him,” he said.
Washington finished up the 2019 season tied for the most sacks in the state as he racked up 21 total during his sophomore campaign. If he ends up signing with UGA, he is projected as an outside linebacker.
Georgia coaches Dan Lanning and Glenn Schumann were the lead recruiters for the Bulldogs to help land a commitment from Washington.
“Committing to Georgia is a blessing for me and my family. This is big for me and my family,” Washington said. “I am the first one in my family going to play football in college, it is exciting for all of us, and to be going to Georgia, we all see it as a blessing.”
