Lithonia High School offensive lineman Broderick Jones committed to UGA back in the spring of 2018 on April 26th. He is one of two 2020 Georgia commits who did not sign their National Letter of Intent (aka LOI) during the Early Signing Period between December 18-20. At the time he committed, the Bulldogs’ offensive line coach was Sam Pittman, who left the Georgia staff the day after the 2019 SEC Championship Game to take the head coaching job at Arkansas on Sunday, December 8th. Head coach Kirby Smart and UGA acted quickly hiring former Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke to replace Pittman.

So far, Luke has done a stellar job in a short period of time keeping four of the Bulldogs’ five 2020 o-line commits intact. Chad Lindberg and Tate Ratledge have already signed their LOIs with Georgia, and Jones along with Sedrick Van Pran have remained committed. Joshua Braun has been the only o-line prospect since Pittman’s departure to decommit from the Bulldogs, and he did so back on December 11th within a day of Luke being hired.

But the question still remains will Broderick Jones and Sedrick Van Pran remain committed to UGA and be a part of the Dawgs’ 2020 recruiting class?

Both Jones and Van Pran plan to finalize their decisions and sign their LOIs on National Signing Day on February 5, 2020. The good news here is that Georgia is going to be getting an official visit from Jones on January 25th after he takes an official to Tennessee on January 18th. Jones is also taking an official to Auburn, and they get the last one during the contact period before National Signing Day on January 31st.

However, the 6-foot-5 and 285 lbs senior spoke at the Under Armour All-America Game high school all-star week during Saturday’s media session that he was still committed to UGA and that the Bulldogs were still his top school.

“Still committed. They are still my top school right now,” said Jones. “Just I have got to take my official visits. Georgia is still the top. Still the top ‘Dawg right now.”

In addition to those official visits, Jones is also playing his final season of varsity basketball for Lithonia, currently 16-1 on the season; so, he will be busy through at least the end of January if not through February when the GHSA men’s basketball state playoff tournament starts.

But Broderick Jones does have at least one more high school football game to play. The Thursday, January 2, 2020 Under Armour All-America Game, which Sedrick Van Pran will also be playing in. The kickoff for the Under Armour All-America Game is set for a 6:00 p.m. ET kickoff on ESPN 2.

If Jones remains committed to and signs with the Dawgs, he’ll join 2020 signees Lindberg and Ratledge along with Austin Blaske and Devin Willock. Jones is currently rated a 5-star prospect by 247Sports, the No. 2 OT, the No. 3 player from the state of Georgia, and the No. 19 overall recruit in the country for 2020. Rivals also rates Broderick a 5-star prospect and have him as the No. 3 OT, the No. 4 player from the Peach State, and the No. 18 recruit nationally overall.
