They’ve seen a lot of changes, so to finish their career in Fort Worth is meaningful for all five of them to experience before they move onto regular life.”
On what today means to her…
“People say I’ve done a lot in club. I have, but today I shed a couple of tears because it’s been a lot. It means a lot. I’ve said it before — Georgia is that team, and we are back.”

BSB: Georgia Sweeps Mississippi State (#4)

STARKVILLE, MISS. –Michael O’Shaughnessy’s three-run home run in extra innings capped fourth-ranked Georgia’s historic sweep of fifth-ranked Mississippi State Saturday in front of 10,256 fans at Dudy Noble Field at Polk-Dement Stadium.
Georgia won 8-5 in 10 innings Saturday after posting 10-9 and 3-1 wins the previous two days as State fell to 25-7, 7-5 SEC. MSU was 18-0 at home this season coming into the series.
Fast Facts
- Georgia (27-6, 10-2 SEC) has won each of its four SEC series this year and is in first place in the league. It swept a series in Starkville for the first time since 2004 and swept a top five SEC road series for the first time in records dating to 1990.
- Juniors Tre Phelps and Daniel Jackson (3-for-6) extended their hitting streaks in the first on a double and single. After Jackson stole his 16th base of the season, they were stranded in scoring position as MSU starter Duke Stone struck out the next three Bulldogs and finished with 10 in four innings.
- Sophomore Rylan Lujo (3-for-5, HR, 4 RBI) made it 3-1 with a two-out run-scoring single in third, but Stone escaped further trouble as the Bulldogs left the bases loaded. Lujo gave Georgia a 4-3 lead in the fifth with a three-run blast, his fifth of the year.
- For the seventh time this season, Georgia smashed back-to-back home runs. In the fifth, Lujo had a three-run shot followed by a solo blast by Brennan Hudson, his 12th of the year.
- Graduate Thomas Ellisen provided 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. Senior Matt Scott entered a 5-5 game with one out in the sixth and pitched 2.2 innings with three strikeouts. In the seventh, State put a runner at second with nobody out and Scott came back to send it to the eighth at 5-all.
- The Bulldogs employed seven pitchers on the afternoon, same as State, and graduate Caden Aoki improved to 3-0 with 2.1 scoreless innings and three strikeouts.

On Saturday’s road sweep…
“I told our guys after the game that they played like Big Leaguers today. It’s a tough day, right when you consider the long game last night and then turn around and pack up, load the bus, check out of the hotel and come play a 10 am game today. We came out and were focused. We got punched a little early, but I told them, there’s no pressure, just go play the game. You look at our bullpen; I tip my cap to what they were able to do again today. They were massive again. I told the hitters, hang in there, be ready if they make a mistake, and Michael O’Shaughnessy just crushed it. Don’t forget the batters before that, Tre got on with a hard out and was running down the line and then Daniel Jackson reaches to set it up for Michael.”
Michael O’Shaugnessy, 3B, Sr,
On Saturday’s road sweep of No. 5 MSU…
“This was amazing, it shows our team is a family. My home run yesterday was big, but it was because everyone worked and battled for us to get in that position and the same is true today. To beat them both times like that, it shows we had nothing to lose and we came in and played loose and free. This team is unbelievable. This place is awesome, the top place I’ve ever played. We made a statement that we’re the real deal.”

Key Quotes:
Head Coach Drake Bernstein
On the team’s performance…
“Great match, great home atmosphere here in Athens. Again, really proud of the team. I’m not sure that we were as sharp as we could have been in the beginning of the doubles. We had some mistakes, but they kept fighting and they worked their way through, likewise in singles. So, great day in Athens.”
Freshman Patricija Paukstyte
On what was working for the team today…
“I would say I’m really happy with my team’s energy. I think even at the start of the singles matches, the result was not showing our way, but we were competing hard and we made it turn around and we got a win in the end, so that’s what I’m most proud of.”
