BB: Georgia Faces Tech at Truist Park Tonight in the Spring Classic to Benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta

Fifth-ranked Georgia returns to action tonight when it faces 14th-ranked Georgia Tech at Truist Park in the Spring Classic to benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA). The first pitch will be at 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs (32-6) are the home team this year. Georgia leads 14-7 in the Spring Classic series that has been played in the Atlanta Braves stadium or their Triple-A park since 2003. In the all-time series, Georgia holds a 221-169-2 edge as it dates to 1898. The teams met four times last year, with three finishing as the Bulldogs won 3-1 in Athens and 11-9 at Coolray Field for CHOA during the regular season. Then, Georgia ended Tech’s season, beating them 8-6 (10) to win the NCAA Athens Regional.

Georgia is a consensus top-five squad in year two of the Wes Johnson era. The Bulldogs are 24-2 at home, 6-4 on the road, and 2-0 at neutral sites this season. The Bulldogs are coming off a huge series win over top-ranked Arkansas at Foley Field. After dropping the opener 13-3, the Bulldogs posted two straight 7-6 wins, including a 12th-inning walk-off home run by senior Henry Hunter on Sunday. Tech, under Danny Hall, is 29-7 this year. They have swept their past two ACC series over Stanford and Cal. Tech enters Tuesday having won seven of their past eight contests, the lone loss an 9-8 decision in Atlanta last week to ninth-ranked Auburn.
